Weeks in review

Over the last weeks, @8bitporkchop has been developing and testing Smart Treasury implementation and shared impressive progress in this development update. A prototype is already available in this GitHub repository. Documentation and test suite are at a good point, and the Balancer whitelist application has been submitted (it would allow the Smart Treasury to be eligible for $BAL rewards).

To set directions/priorities with our community, the Community Roadmap post serves as an overview of the topics that can be explored – and eventually implemented this year. The current list is divided by effort required to implement a new feature, and the next step would be to pick up some tasks and start setting up the implementation (this would be more lean with the Treasury Committee in place, see below).

Third functional proposal is the launch of a Treasury Committee to reward value creation in Idle. This pilot can help speed up the grant/bounties set-up. This approach can then be applied to different departments (eg development, communications, compliance, strategies, …) and give a more structured organization to the workflow. The Governance would act as a supervisor of the whole infrastructure.

Other discussions to improve the protocol are:

Next Steps

  • To move forward with the Treasury Committee, we’ve proposed a possible structure for an initial pilot. This Pilot League post defines the initial parameters of this trial. We are keen to discuss with our community about these parameters (committee composition, compensation, mandate duration, budget, roles) and then set up a Temperature Check to see the governance sentiment and move forward with a more structured proposal. Once we reach a consensus on the Committee structure, candidates would be able to apply and get selected in the Committee (with a Snapshot poll).

  • Community Roadmap is now waiting for your feedback! Further discussion should be oriented on tasks’ prioritization: a good initiative would be to pick 2-3 topics up for each category and give a short motivation for it. This allows the Governance to set the short-mid term trajectory and focus treasury resources on key activities.

  • Today, Asaf just announced that the Smart Treasury just entered the testing phase and our community should now focus on deciding over the security review: would the Governance choose full audit or peer review? You can vote in this snapshot poll until 2021-01-13T04:00:00Z
